HOW IT WORKS
What Is Tap-to-Share NFC?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It is a short-range contactless technology that allows a compatible smartphone and an NFC tag to communicate when they are held close together.

You Program a Link
Use a compatible smartphone and an NFC-writing app to add the URL you want the product to open.

Someone Taps to Open
A compatible phone reads the NFC tag and shows a notification that opens the chosen link.
The person tapping normally does not need NFC Tools.
NFC Tools is used to program the tag. After setup, a compatible smartphone can read a standard URL record and open it from the phone's NFC notification.
THE USEFUL PART
The Tag Stores the Link—Not the Whole Page.
Think of the NFC tag as a small doorway. It does not need to hold your entire menu, portfolio, contact card, photo album or information page. It stores the web address that tells the phone where to go.
If the content at that same web address changes, the tag can continue opening the updated version. That makes one physical product useful long after its first setup.

An Etchline Tap-to-Share product opens the URL programmed to its NFC tag. That link can lead to a website, profile, menu, payment page or another online destination.
TAP-TO-PAY
Processes a Contactless Payment
A bank card or mobile wallet communicates with a payment terminal. An Etchline Tap-to-Share product does not become a credit card, mobile wallet or payment terminal.
A payment link can still be your destination.
The NFC tag can open a payment webpage chosen by the customer, but any transaction takes place through that destination—not inside the NFC tag.

Write the URL using an NFC app, then test it with more than one compatible phone whenever possible.

Does the person tapping need an app?
Usually not. NFC Tools is used to program the tag. A compatible phone can normally read a standard URL record and display a notification without installing NFC Tools.
Does Tap-to-Share work with every phone?
It requires an NFC-compatible smartphone. NFC settings, reading location and background-reading behavior vary by phone model.
Can I change what the product opens?
Yes, while the NFC tag remains writable. You can rewrite it with a different URL. If you keep the same URL and only update its page content, rewriting is usually unnecessary.
Does an NFC web link need internet access?
Yes. A phone needs an available internet connection to open an online webpage, Google Doc, profile, menu or other web destination.
Can Tap-to-Share track the product or the person?
No. A standard Etchline Tap-to-Share tag is not a GPS tracker and does not provide live location tracking.
How do I program my Etchline NFC product?
