What Is Tap-to-Share?

What Is Tap-to-Share?

Want someone to follow your Instagram without spelling your handle out loud?

Need a customer to save your phone number while their hands are full?

Want someone to open your menu, payment link, photo album, review page, portfolio, or emergency info with one quick tap?

You’re in the right place.

Sound familiar?

You already use NFC tap technology every day.

Contactless credit cards and debit cards — the ones with the tap symbol — have NFC technology built in.

Smartphones have NFC technology built in too.

Transit cards, like NYC’s OMNY card, use it too.

When you tap a contactless card or phone at checkout, the payment terminal reads the built-in NFC chip and completes the action.

Tap. Share. Done.

Have you seen those tap-to-pay star wands go viral on Instagram and TikTok and wondered how they work?

Many of them work by holding a tap-to-pay credit card inside the wand, so the customer can tap the wand at a payment terminal while shopping, checking out, or going through a drive-thru.

Etchline NYC Tap-to-Share uses that same familiar tap idea, but in a more useful and everyday way.

Imagine not having to keep printing new business cards.

Imagine not having your personal phone number or address written out on a luggage tag for everyone to see.

Imagine not texting back and forth with every guest just to share party pictures.

Why write things down on a piece of paper that someone can lose in a heartbeat, when they can see it directly on something they probably will not lose — their phone?

Instead, they tap your item, and everything opens right on their phone.

And don’t worry — we’ll guide you step by step so you know exactly how to make it happen.

Our Tap-to-Share products are designed to feel like something people actually want to keep — unique, colorful, personalized, fun, and useful.

Instead of a loose paper card or plain printed flyer, your information is built into a custom item with hardware like lobster claws, key rings, carabiners, safety pins, clips, or bag attachments.

That makes it easier for kids, seniors, and adults to clip it onto a backpack, sports bag, luggage, keys, lanyard, purse, pet carrier, or event bag instead of tossing it aside or losing it.

Why people love Tap-to-Share

Tap-to-Share is helpful when your information changes often, when printed materials get lost, or when a QR code does not fit the look you want.

QR codes are useful, but they can be hard to scan in dim lighting, on glossy surfaces, on small printed cards, or when the tiny printed dots do not come out clearly.

With Tap-to-Share, your item can stay clean and polished while your link does the work.

  • Update your link destination without reprinting new cards, flyers, or tags.
  • Share information faster without typing, searching, or spelling things out.
  • Keep personal details more private by linking to a page instead of writing everything directly on a tag.
  • Reduce reprinting when schedules, menus, contact details, or event information changes.
  • Create a cleaner look than placing a visible QR code on every item.

Who can use Tap-to-Share?

Tap-to-Share is not just for keychains. It can be used for events, businesses, schools, teams, gifts, and custom 3D printed items.

  • Small businesses and vendors: share your website, menu, payment link, Zelle payment link, Instagram, TikTok, digital contact card link, or review page with one tap.
  • Realtors: link to open house schedules, listing pages, contact pages, property updates, or appointment links that can be updated online without handing out new flyers.
  • Restaurants, cafés, and bars: use a table stand, tag, or plaque with NFC instead of relying only on QR codes that may not scan well in low light or on small printed pieces.
  • Sports teams and parents: add NFC to bag tags so families can tap to view season schedules, team photo pages, updates, or coach-shared information.
  • Coaches and team managers: update schedules or links on the backend so parents are not stuck with outdated printed handouts.
  • Event planners: link guests to timelines, seating info, photo albums, RSVP pages, hotel blocks, shuttle details, or event updates.
  • Weddings and Save the Dates: link to wedding websites, RSVP pages, registry pages, photo albums, or weekend schedules.
  • Corporate teams: use NFC gifts, badges, desk items, or event favors to share landing pages, team pages, contact cards, portfolios, or brand links.
  • Schools, camps, and student support items: link to important info pages, allergy info pages, emergency contact pages, classroom resources, camp notes, or student support details.
  • Travelers and families: use NFC luggage tags, pet tags, bag tags, or “if found” tags without writing every personal detail directly on the item.

Now imagine that tap magic built into something practical:

  • Keychains
  • Tags
  • Pins
  • Clips
  • Luggage tags
  • Pet tags
  • School tags
  • Business giveaways
  • Event favors
  • Table signs or plaque stands
  • Custom 3D printed pieces

No camera scanning.
No typing.
No searching.
No “Wait... what was your Instagram again?”

Just tap and open.

Etchline NYC Tap-to-Share products turn everyday items into programmable contactless pieces that can open a website link, digital contact card link, payment link, social media page, photo album, review page, menu, emergency info page, or custom URL with a simple phone tap.

What is NFC?

NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It is the contactless tap technology used in contactless credit cards, debit cards, smartphones, transit cards like NYC’s OMNY card, and other everyday items.

With Etchline NYC Tap-to-Share products, the NFC tag is built into the item. After purchase, you program the tag yourself to open a simple link.

Why use Tap-to-Share instead of a QR code?

QR codes work, but they are not always pretty.

A QR code can take over the design of a custom gift, school tag, business item, fan accessory, event favor, table display, or keepsake.

Tap-to-Share keeps the front of your item clean while still giving people instant access to your link.

No camera scanning.
No typing in a website.
No searching for your page.
No handing over a business card that gets lost.

Just tap.

What can the NFC tag open?

Your NFC tag can open a link such as:

  • Instagram or TikTok page
  • Digital contact card link
  • Website link
  • Portfolio link
  • Menu or shop page
  • Payment link
  • Zelle payment link
  • Google review link
  • Party photo album
  • Team photo page
  • Real estate listing page
  • Open house schedule
  • Restaurant menu
  • Event schedule
  • Wedding website
  • Save the Date page
  • Luggage contact page

  • Emergency info page
  • Medical info page
  • Allergy info page
  • School support page
  • Camp information page
  • Custom URL

NFC tag capacity

NFC tag capacity: approximately 504 bytes.

Because NFC tags have limited storage, they are best used for simple links. They do not store photos, videos, files, long messages, or private documents directly on the tag.

For best results, program the tag with a short link that opens your website, photo page, contact page, review page, payment page, social media page, or custom URL.

How it works

  1. Choose a Tap-to-Share product.
  2. Select the NFC option if the product has one.
  3. After purchase, use the NFC Setup Guide to program your tag.
  4. Tap your phone near the NFC symbol on the item.
  5. Your chosen link opens on a compatible smartphone.
